Pakistan The 142nd birth anniversary of national poet Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being observed today (Saturday) all over the country with traditional zeal and enthusiasm.
142nd Birth Anniversary Of Poet Of The East And Philosopher, Hakeemul-Ummat, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal:
Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. He is also recognised as national poet, and known as Muffakir-e-Pakistan (thinker of Pakistan), Shair-e-Mashriq (poet of the east) and Hakeemul Ummat (doctor of the Muslim ummah) and is credited with sparking the pan-Islamic thought among Muslims of the subcontinent.
Dr Allama Iqbal envisioned the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of subcontinent‚ which led to the creation of Pakistan in 1947.
He passed his M.A in philosophy from Government College Lahore after which for higher education he went to London and from Lincoln’s Inn, he did his law.
He also did his PhD in philosophy from Germany’s Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich.
Among his 12,000 verses of poetry, about 7,000 verses are in Persian. Iqbal with his revolutionary poetry gave rebirth to the Muslims of the subcontinent.
He used to symbolize the Muslims with Shaheen (perigrine falcon) to motivate the Muslims who were suffering under British rule.
The idea of Iqbal’s poetry was unique. This was the reason why he is considered as Pakistan’s greatest philosopher.
The nation every year on 9th November gives a tribute to him on his efforts in the creation of Pakistan. This day is marked as Yom-E-Iqbal also known as Iqbal Day in the loving memory of Allama Iqbal.
He is also considered one of the most important figures in literature with literary works in both Urdu and Persian languages. Asrar-e-Khudi, Payam-i-Mashriq, Bang-i-Dara, Bal-i-Jibril, Zarb-i Kalim and Armughan-e-Hijaz were amongst his best works.
The nation is celebrating the day with dedication to pay homage to the great poet philosopher and to highlight his achievements.
Various educational‚ political‚ social and cultural organizations have arranged special programmes to portray Iqbal s philosophy‚ life and his contribution to create awareness among the Muslims of South Asia.
Allama Iqbal conceived the idea of Pakistan and is, therefore, regarded as one of the founding fathers of the country.
Iqbal was a Sufi poet for the modern age who aroused a revolutionary spirit in the nation through his poetry. His poetry has been translated in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, English and several other languages and is considered a great philosopher all over the world.
Unfortunately, he could not see the independence of Pakistan and died on April 21, 1938.
The events of the day include change of guards ceremony at Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore.
Change Of Guard Ceremony Held At Mausoleum Of Allama Iqbal:
A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy took charge of the guard duties.
Station Commander of Pakistan Navy, Commodore Naimatullah Khan, who was the chief guest of the ceremony, laid floral wreath at the Mazar and offered fateha.
He also noted down his impressions on the visitors book.
