Want clearer, softer skin? Try applying ghee on your face overnight

Ghee is a mixture of vitamins A, D and E, contains antioxidants that support skin elasticity, reduces signs of ageing.

Clarified butter, or ghee, a household staple in Indian kitchens, is gaining popularity as an overnight skincare remedy. Traditionally used in cooking and religious rituals, the nutrient-rich ingredient is now being embraced in beauty routines for its natural healing and moisturising properties.

According to skincare experts, ghee is a powerhouse of vitamins A, D, and E, and contains antioxidants that support skin elasticity and reduce signs of ageing. When applied to the face overnight, it may help reduce wrinkles and enhance skin texture.

“Ghee acts as a deep moisturiser without leaving a greasy residue,” said a beauty expert. “It penetrates into the skin and nourishes it from within.”

In addition to anti-ageing benefits, ghee is said to improve skin tone. Regular application can add a natural glow, while consumption — such as taking a teaspoon of ghee each morning — may support clearer, blemish-free skin.

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, ghee also soothes irritated or allergy-prone skin. Applied under the eyes, it is believed to reduce dark circles. Experts claim a few drops massaged daily can show results within weeks.

Ghee is also used as a natural lip balm. Applied overnight, it can restore hydration and reduce pigmentation, particularly in dry winter months.

Its detoxifying effects are another touted benefit. Consuming two teaspoons daily and applying a fine layer before bed is believed to help flush out toxins — often linked to dull or problematic skin.

Suggested Application Method:

To maximise benefits, mix ghee with turmeric in equal parts. Apply the paste evenly on the face, let it dry, and rinse with cold water. Gently pat the face dry and leave overnight for best results.

While scientific evidence remains limited, anecdotal support for ghee’s skincare benefits continues to grow, reinforcing the ingredient’s reputation as a natural, affordable addition to one’s beauty routine.
