Foreign Ministry reiterates call for diplomacy and adherence to international conventions after embassy damage during shelling of Ukrainian capital.
The UAE has issued a firm call for the protection of diplomatic missions after the Qatar embassy building in Kyiv sustained damage from recent shelling of the Ukrainian capital.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed “the need to protect civilian and diplomatic buildings and the headquarters of embassy staff in accordance with international norms and conventions regulating diplomatic work.” The condemnation follows the release of images showing significant damage to the Qatari diplomatic premises following an air attack on the city.
Reaffirming its position on the wider conflict, the Ministry underscored the UAE’s ongoing commitment to peaceful resolution efforts. It emphasized a “position calling for diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation, in light of the deteriorating humanitarian situation and the continued suffering of civilians.”
The statement reinforces the UAE’s consistent advocacy for the inviolability of diplomatic property under international law, even as it continues to pursue a mediating role in seeking an end to the war in Ukraine.
