KUWAIT CITY — Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye began a two-nation Gulf tour on Monday, holding high-level discussions in Kuwait aimed at reinforcing diplomatic and economic partnerships before his scheduled participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
During his official visit, President Faye met with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to explore avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation. The Senegalese delegation included key ministers responsible for national transformation, African integration, foreign affairs, finance, and water management, signaling a focus on comprehensive partnership.
The president’s office stated that the tour is designed to “strengthen ties between Senegal and Gulf countries,” with Kuwait serving as the first strategic stop. Following the meetings, Faye will travel to the United Arab Emirates to attend the final sessions of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on January 14–15. The event is a major international platform addressing sustainable development, clean energy transition, and climate innovation.
Faye was welcomed upon arrival by Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Naif Mohammed Al-Mudhaf, among other senior officials. The visit underscores Senegal’s proactive engagement with Gulf nations amid growing African-Gulf economic collaboration.
