Defending champion Sinner seeded second, Świątek and Gauff round out women’s top three; Djokovic lands at No. 4 in men’s draw ahead of Sunday’s start.
MELBOURNE – World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and reigning Australian Open women’s champion Aryna Sabalenka have been named the top seeds for this year’s tournament, which begins Sunday at Melbourne Park.
The seedings, announced Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s official draw, position two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner at No. 2 in the men’s field and Iga Świątek and Coco Gauff as the second and third seeds in the women’s draw – mirroring last year’s top three.
Notably, 10-time Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic enters as the fourth seed, his lowest seeding at the tournament in years.
Sabalenka, who claimed her first Grand Slam title here last year, heads a women’s field that includes four American women in the top 10 seeds, including U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff (3) and defending champion Madison Keys (9). Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka, continuing her comeback, is seeded 16th.
In the men’s list, Lorenzo Musetti of Italy and Australia’s own Alex de Minaur round out the top six, with Americans Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton also securing top-10 seeding.
The seedings will play a crucial role in Thursday’s draw, determining potential early matchups and paths through the fortnight. The Australian Open runs from January 14–28 at Melbourne Park.
