Aviation authority states agreement remains in force during notice period after Algeria initiates termination of 2013 air services deal.
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said on Sunday that Algeria’s move to terminate a bilateral air services agreement will not immediately affect flights between the two countries.
The statement, carried by the state news agency WAM, came a day after Algeria announced it had begun the process of cancelling the air pact signed with the UAE in Abu Dhabi in 2013.
“The air services agreement with Algeria remains in force during the legally mandated notice period,” the GCAA said, without specifying the duration of that period. It added that the termination “will not have any immediate impact on flight operations.”
Algeria did not publicly state its reasons for ending the agreement. The pact had governed flight rights, routes, and frequency between the two nations for over a decade.
The GCAA indicated that it would follow standard diplomatic and legal procedures during the notice period. No further details were immediately provided regarding potential negotiations or the long-term implications for air connectivity.
