Abu Dhabi to carry out new strategic projects at a cost of Dhs3 billion to improve traffic safety

Towards a Visionary Future, the ITC announces its new strategic projects, which seamlessly combine infrastructure developments as well as road networks in a smooth and innovative manner at a total cost of more than Dhs3 billion. These initiatives represent a strong commitment towards enhancing the community well-being and reflect the center’s vision of achieving a strong, integrated transportation system.
In addition, the projects will achieve the ITC’s vision of improving traffic safety, enhancing mobility between areas and economic zones across the emirate, streaming traffic flow, reducing congestion, and providing new solutions that contribute to establishing a sustainable integrated transport system that meets customer aspirations.
The Mid-Island Parkway project is the largest of these projects. It spans 25 kilometres and connects the mainland and Abu Dhabi Island through the Central Islands with a four- to five-lane road. The road provides entrances and exits to several islands, including Samalia, Umm Yafina, Saadiyat, and Al Reem, with a capacity of between 8 and 10,000 vehicles per hour in each direction.
The project is divided into two phases due to its magnitude. The first phase connects Saadiyat Island to Umm Yafina Road and then to Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Road and Al Reem Island. The second phase connects Umm Yafina Island to Al Raha Beach, E10 road, Al Kahleej Al Arabi road (E20) and Zayed City.
Among the most prominent projects announced by the ITC is the traffic improvement project on Mussafah Road (E30). This project will eliminate traffic jam in both directions, reduce congestion at overhead and internal intersections in Mussafah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City, and construct two new bridges to enhance connectivity between the two areas.
The project will increase road capacity, improve traffic flow, enhance traffic safety, and improve connectivity with economic zones.
The projects to be implemented will include traffic improvements along Al Khaleej Al Arabi (E20) between the Airport and Bridges Complex intersections. This will improve connectivity between Khalifa City and Zayed City, reduce traffic congestion at the entrances and exits of Khalifa City by improving the existing intersection (IC3), and provide a new entrance to Khalifa City and Zayed City through the new intersection (IC5). The road’s capacity will be increased by adding two more traffic lanes, bringing the total to five.
A project is also being constructed at the intersection of Abu Dhabi-Al Ain and Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to increase traffic capacity from the south of E22 towards Mohammed Bin Zayed City on Road 79, and from the north of E22 towards Abu Dhabi University, improving the capacity of the road.
