Bad experiences with female co-stars: Nawal Saeed thinks says male co-stars great to work with

Actor reluctantly spoke about dramatically different experiences

In a recent appearance on the popular TV show Gup Shup, hosted by Vasay Chaudhary, Pakistani actor Nawal Saeed offered candid insights into her dramatically different experiences working alongside fellow actors. During the interview, she shared her observations about the dynamics between male and female actors, shedding light on the challenges she has faced in the industry.

Nawal started by expressing her positive experiences with male actors. She noted that, in general, male actors tend to be more cooperative and amicable with their colleagues compared to their female counterparts. The actor commended her co-stars, highlighting positive experiences with her male co-stars such as Shahroz Sabzwari and Zahid Ahmed, emphasising the ease of collaboration and mutual understanding during their work together.

“My experiences with male co-stars are good,” shared Nawal. “The few bad experiences I’ve had are with female co-actors. I recently worked with Haris (Waheed) and I really liked working with him. We were working collaboratively, holding discussions with ease. Shahroz is nice, Zahid is nice. There are many.”

However, the conversation took a more introspective turn as Nawal delved into the challenges she faced while working with some female co-stars. She admitted that her initial experiences were difficult, citing instances where she felt a lack of camaraderie. Nawal also revealed instances of professional jealousy, stating that during casting discussions, some actresses suggested directors cast someone other than herself. Furthermore, she disclosed uncomfortable situations where fellow actresses inquired about her wearing a wig, showcasing the competitive nature of the industry.

“When I started, this happened,” Nawal shared whilst shedding light upon her unpleasant experiences. “Sometimes you hear that while casting, some actors bring up your name…If there’s a story with two women, an actor will say you should cast somebody else other than Nawal. I get to know.” When asked why this is so, the actor said she did not have a single clue as to what prompted such reactions. 

“Sometimes, they’ll go up to the makeup artist and ask if Nawal wears a wig,” shared the actor further, stating that she tells her makeup artist to confirm the same, “if it makes them happy.” Nawal said that her contemporaries often think she’s “hiding something” and unearthing her secrets becomes a must for these co-stars. Nawal’s transparency in discussing these challenges reflects the evolving landscape for actors in the Pakistani entertainment industry. Despite facing obstacles that the starlet claims to have combated early in her career, Nawal emphasised personal growth and a more positive working environment in recent projects.

In another instance, during a show hosted by Naumaan Ijaz, Nawal acknowledged that her appealing looks and charming, innocent personality have contributed to the numerous projects she has received. Her candid admission sheds light on the industry’s emphasis on external attributes and the challenges faced by artists in navigating these expectations.
