At the time of writing, OpenAI has not disclosed the reasons for the outage. This marks the second time in recent months that ChatGPT has experienced downtime. On December 12, 2024, an outage impacted OpenAI’s newly launched Sora AI model, which enables users to create videos from text prompts.

In a recent update regarding the outage on Thursday afternoon, OpenAI said: “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”
