Covid-19 cases hit new daily high in the UAE


The UAE on Saturday reported its highest number of coronavirus cases in a day as new infections exceeded 1,000 for the first time.

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said a total of 1,007 cases recorded in past 24 hours following 95,287 tests were conducted in the same period. It also reported 521 new recoveries and one death on Saturday.
Total cases in the UAE now stand at 78,849, with 68,983 recoveries and 399 deaths.
“Today we have recorded the highest daily number of new cases. It is everyone’s responsibility to work together and overcome this stage,” the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority tweeted on Saturday.
The UAE has conducted 8 million Covid-19 tests since the beginning of the pandemic – one of the highest totals in the world – and has been ramping up its testing efforts across the country.
In a special briefing on Thursday, ⁣⁣⁣Dr Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson for the health sector in the country, said that there has been an increase of 5% in new Covid-19 cases since August 10 only 179 cases were registered in the country.
“Leniency in preventive measures such as social distancing and wearing masks, ignoring safety measures at malls and shops as well avoiding government advisory are key factors behind the surge in Covid cases in the country,” she said.
“Some individuals also ignored their Covid symptoms and continued normal activities, which should not be the case,” she said, adding that an approved quarantine protocol must be applied on suspected Covid patients.
“Everyone who gets into contact with an infected person must undergo the approved quarantine protocol for at least 14 days,” she said.
