Second strike in less than a month hits major oil facility as emergency crews battle to contain flames; KUNA confirms response plans activated.
KUWAIT CITY – Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, one of the country’s largest oil processing facilities, was hit by multiple drones early this morning, triggering fires across several operational units, state news agency KUNA reported.
Emergency and firefighting teams were immediately deployed and have begun implementing response plans to contain the fires and prevent them from spreading to adjacent facilities, according to KUNA.
No injuries have been reported. Authorities confirmed that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of refinery workers and to protect critical infrastructure.
Second attack in weeks
This is not the first time the refinery has been targeted. On March 20, Mina Al-Ahmadi was also struck by multiple drones. Preliminary reports from that incident similarly confirmed no injuries.
The back-to-back attacks raise fresh concerns over the security of Kuwait’s energy infrastructure amid heightened regional tensions.
Regional context
The incident comes as the wider Middle East remains on edge following escalating hostilities involving the US, Israel, and Iran. (For the latest regional developments, follow Khaleej Times’ live blog.)
Authorities have not yet identified the origin of the drones or claimed responsibility for the attack. Further details are expected as the response operation continues.
