Farida Fadhil, head of Carpet and Art Oasis organising committee, said the Dubai Customs has already completed leasing 90 per cent of the space available for the event.
As City Walk is a very attractive tourist spot at the heart of Dubai, heavy footfall is expected, she added.
“Big space is another advantage here, which will enable visitors to shop freely with convenience and choose from thousands of different exquisite and delicate carpets.”
The place will host a number of interesting activities during the exhibition period, she pointed out.
“A cartoon character, named “Zawlia” (carpet), has been selected as the mascot for the event.
“Handcrafted carpets are part of the Arabic and Islamic cultural heritage and the UAE is turning to become the perfect hunting ground for anyone looking to invest in a traditional carpet,” added Fadhil.
The Carpet and Art Oasis is expected to draw thousands of tourists to Dubai. She said this is the only event that brings such a large variety of handmade carpets under one roof.
Mariam Al Shamsi, deputy head of Carpet and Art Oasis organising committee, said they provide traders and companies with the best services to facilitate their business. “The pieces displayed here are mostly brought from famous countries along the Silk Road.”
“Amongst the participants is Suhaila Al Khazali, the first Emirati female carpet manufacturer, who will be there to raise awareness around the great value of this art and profession.”
