Explosions reported in Iraqi capital Baghdad

Police officer tells media vehicle ‘probably hit by missile fired from drone’

At least three consecutive explosions were heard in Baghdad on Wednesday night.

Residents reported hearing ambulances heading to the eastern side of the Iraqi capital.

“A car was on fire in Baghdad’s eastern neighbourhood of Al Mashtal,” a police officer told media. “It was probably hit by a missile fired from a drone. We are investigating

No more details were immediately available.

Conflict between US forces and Iran-backed militias in Iraq has intensified since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza war.

The US has carried out air strikes against militias in the country who have attacked US military bases with missiles.
