Francis Mercier leads international DJ squad against UAE content creators in high-energy clash ahead of Ushuaïa Dubai Harbour performance; creators clinch 8-5 victory.
Dubai served as the perfect pitch where music met sport last Friday, as Red Bull UAE hosted a unique football showdown between international DJs and homegrown UAE content creators.
Held at Precision Football in Ibn Battuta, the friendly match saw artists swap decks for cleats and digital creators trade cameras for kits in a spirited warm-up event blending fitness, fun, and cross-industry camaraderie.
Heading the DJ team was Haitian electronic music star Francis Mercier, fresh off a flight from Ibiza ahead of his scheduled performance at Ushuaïa Dubai Harbour. “I really love to play football,” Mercier said ahead of the match. “Red Bull was open to it, and there were some cool creators from the UAE who wanted to play. So we thought, let’s do something fun before the show.”
Mercier, who grew up admiring Brazilian football legends, revealed his preference for a midfield role where he enjoys controlling the game’s tempo—a skill not unlike DJing. Confident despite his travel schedule, he joked before kickoff: “DJs versus content creators — the DJs are going to win.”
Opposing him was Dubai-based travel content creator Ramy Hamdan, who brought competitive experience from his teen years playing club football in Lebanon. “I used to play with my team before, they’re my friends—we have chemistry,” Hamdan noted, though this time he aimed for a more attacking position. “Today I want to play left wing, striker. I want to score,” he said with a smile.
The match showcased Dubai’s dynamic cultural scene, where global artists and regional digital talents connect beyond their usual domains. As Mercier observed, the city is “full of energy and opportunity,” with football acting as a unifying language.
After an energetic back-and-forth, both Mercier and Hamdan found the net, but it was the creators’ squad that ultimately secured bragging rights with an 8–5 victory.
The initiative underlined Red Bull’s continued fusion of sports, music, and local community engagement, offering a playful prelude to a weekend of entertainment in Dubai.
