Fresh off a stellar season featuring a first PGA Tour win and a Ryder Cup triumph, the Dubai-based Englishman is confident he can finally conquer the event where he has twice finished runner-up.
DUBAI – World No. 4 Tommy Fleetwood has set his sights on a “very special” victory at this week’s DP World Tour Championship, aiming to cap a career-best year by winning a title that has eluded him in his own backyard.
The Englishman, a resident of Dubai, has come agonizingly close to winning the season finale before, finishing as runner-up in both 2019 and 2023. Now, buoyed by a phenomenal 2025 season, he believes he is perfectly positioned to finally lift the trophy.
“It would be very special,” Fleetwood said. “My whole family are here. Lots of familiar faces, a course that I know well, and I live very, very close. I can clearly see that image in my head [of winning]. I know it so well.”
Fleetwood arrives in dazzling form, having broken through for his first PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship to claim the FedExCup in August. He also played a pivotal role in Europe’s historic Ryder Cup victory and won the DP World India Championship last month.
Despite a narrow playoff loss to Aaron Rai at last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, Fleetwood is choosing to focus on the positives from his performance, where he fired four stellar rounds to finish at 25 under par.
“It was a great tournament… I feel like I played so well and played so consistently throughout the week,” he reflected. “Another really, really good week. Now [I have] one more week to go in the season.”
With the confidence of a landmark year behind him and the comfort of home surroundings, Fleetwood is ready to present himself with the winning chance that has just slipped away in the past.
