Revolutionary Guards claim strikes on Israeli military sites and US targets; several injured near Tel Aviv, Israeli media reports
JERUSALEM: Israel’s military announced Wednesday that it had detected missiles launched from Iran toward its territory and activated air defense systems, marking a significant escalation in regional hostilities.
Air raid sirens wailed across Jerusalem, with AFP journalists reporting the sound of distant explosions. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Telegram that defensive systems were “operating to intercept the threat,” later announcing that residents were permitted to leave shelters.
Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service reported no immediate fatalities but confirmed treating “a small number of people who were injured on their way to protected areas.” Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 reported several injuries from strikes near Tel Aviv.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility, stating they targeted a satellite communications center in Haifa, military installations inside Israel, and US assets across the Middle East—including positions in Iraqi Kurdistan and the US Fifth Fleet naval base in Bahrain.
“We will continue our sustained attacks with purpose and power,” the Guards declared on their Sepah News website. “In this war, we contemplate nothing but the enemy’s complete surrender.”
The missile launch comes as Israel simultaneously presses what it describes as a “wave” of strikes against both Iranian and Lebanese targets, further inflaming tensions across an already volatile region.
