• Hosts New Zealand powered to a 46 run victory over Pakistan in the first of a five match series in Auckland, as the visitors conceded the highest score against them in a T20 international.
• After Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first, New Zealand reached 226-8 with Daryl Mitchell (61 runs) and captain Kane Williamson (57 runs) making half centuries. New Zealand then bowled Pakistan all out for 180 runs.
• Williamson captained the home side after being sidelined by injury on several occasions last year.
• The match ushered in a new era of captaincy for Pakistan, with fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi taking over the role from former skipper Babar Azam.
