Pathaan, an espionage action movie starring Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, has made history by surpassing the $100 million mark at the global box office in just 12 days, making it the first Bollywood movie to reach this milestone without a release in China. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, has grossed $64.2 million in India and $39.4 million from overseas markets as of Monday.
Despite Pathaan’s achievement, Aamir Khan-starrers Dangal and Secret Superstar remain ahead of it on a worldwide basis due to their substantial earnings in China, where they were dubbed for local audiences. Similarly, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which also stars Salman Khan alongside Pathaan’s Shah Rukh Khan, remains ahead globally due to its dubbed release in China.
In India, Pathaan has generated a net revenue of 438.5 crore, surpassing the net revenue of KGF 2’s Hindi dubbed version on Monday. Baahubali 2 currently holds the top spot for net revenue at 510 crore. Regardless, Pathaan is already the biggest Bollywood movie ever globally in the original Hindi language.
The lead offshore market for Pathaan is North America, where it has earned $14.3 million as of Sunday. It is estimated that the film could overtake Baahubali 2 to become the biggest Indian movie ever in North America. The UAE and Gulf States have also shown a significant amount of support for the film, grossing $11.4 million through Sunday. Pathaan has also become the highest-grossing Indian film ever in the UAE.
The success of Pathaan has been unprecedented, and it is an exceptional feat for a Bollywood film to reach $100 million without a China release. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham, the movie has been on an incredible ride and has shown that Bollywood films can compete on a global scale. The film’s story, direction, and performances have resonated with audiences worldwide, cementing its place in Bollywood history.
