Security forces on high alert after a man and his wife were found dead with provocative slogans at their home, in what officials call a bid to ignite communal strife.
HOMS, Syria – A heavy security deployment and an overnight curfew have been imposed in the southern neighborhoods of Homs, following the brutal murder of a couple in the town of Zaidal, which officials have labeled a deliberate attempt to incite sectarian discord.
The internal security forces raised their alert level and moved into the area after the bodies of a man and his wife were discovered in their home earlier today. The situation escalated after investigators found sectarian slogans at the crime scene, pointing to a potential motive to provoke unrest within the community.
In a statement, Brigadier General Murhaf Al-Nassan, head of internal security in Homs, condemned the “heinous crime” and confirmed its apparent aim was to “ignite sectarian rhetoric and sow discord.” He urged citizens to remain calm and allow the security forces to conduct their investigation.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to secure evidence, identify the perpetrators, and bring them to justice. The Ministry of Interior, communicating via its Telegram channel, stated that all necessary legal procedures are underway and called for public cooperation with official directives.
The Homs governorate concurrently held an emergency meeting to discuss measures to strengthen stability and prevent any signs of chaos. Security forces have affirmed their “firm stance against any attempt to destabilize civil peace” in the region.
According to a SANA correspondent, the affected areas are currently calm under the heavy security presence as officials work to prevent the tragedy from being exploited to fuel broader violence.
