Taylor Swift: Crazy rush for Singapore concert as over 1 million queue for tickets

American singer will be performing in Singapore in March next year as part of her 'Eras Tour'

Hordes of Taylor Swift fans clamored for tickets to the singer’s six Singapore shows on Wednesday, with the ticketing website suggesting more than a million people were in the online queue.

Fans across Asia took to Twitter to complain about issues logging on to Ticketmaster’s website as they rushed to snag tickets to the only Southeast Asian dates of the pop star’s Eras world tour.

In just 10 minutes, the fans with UOB cards already started to receive queue numbers which extended up to more than a million.
The organiser, AEG Presents Asia, announced on Twitter at around 3pm that the UOB Cardmembers pre-sale tickets for all six nights – March 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, 2024 – had been sold out.

The demand for the tickets seemed amazingly high. Fans of the American Pop star, popularly known as ‘Swifties’, have been sharing their queue numbers on social media platforms. They were going beyond 1.4 million in counting.

Ticket buyers could have multiple queue numbers if they accessed the pre-sale link from different devices or had multiple accounts with the ticketing website.

Each buyer had only 10 minutes to complete the transaction, and ticket sales were limited to a maximum of four for each account.

Those who tried to log in before the presale kicked off at noon were put into a holding room before being allocated queue numbers, which quickly spiraled to six figures. It’s not known how many people were using multiple devices or browser tabs.

Singaporean fan Naila Nadeem, 23, snagged four tickets for Swift’s first show on March 2 after queuing on the Ticketmaster site for more than an hour. “It was the most stressful ticketing experience ever,” she said. The pre-sale tickets were marked as sold out at around 3 p.m.
United Overseas Bank Ltd. cardholders in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam were given access to Wednesday’s presale 48 hours ahead of the general public. Daily average credit card applications across these markets jumped 45% in the week Swift announced her concert dates, compared with earlier in June, UOB said in response to queries from Bloomberg News earlier.

The United Overseas Bank pre-sale started at noon and is open to all UOB cardmembers. 

The American singer recently doubled her three-night stint in Singapore to six dates, matching British rock band Coldplay, who will perform in the city-state next year. The general ticket sale begins at noon on Friday.

Ticket prices for Swift’s Singapore concerts range from $108 to $348, with VIP packages also available.

The rush for her concert tickets comes just after British rock band Coldplay sold out tickets in June for six concerts in January 2024. Then, over a million virtual queue numbers were also issued.

General sales for Swift’s concerts will start on Friday at noon online at Ticketmaster or physically at SingPost outlets islandwide for all who obtained an access code after a prior pre-registration exercise.
