UAE administers 86,942 doses of Covid-19 vaccine

The Ministry of Health and Prevention conducts 223,799 additional Covid-19 tests over the past 24 hours

ABU DHABI — The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced that 86,942 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered during the past 24 hours.

The total number of doses provided up to today stands at 8,220,783 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 83.12 doses per 100 people.

The vaccination drive is in line with the ministry’s plan to provide the vaccine to all members of society and acquire immunity, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the spread of the virus.

On Monday, the UAE disclosed that it signed an agreement with China to produce Covid-19 vaccine in the country. 

“The vaccine, called Hayat-Vax [Hayat means life in Arabic], is the first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine in the region that will be manufactured by a newly created joint venture between Sinopharm CNBG, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world that has supplied over 100 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine globally, and G42, the leading technology company based in Abu Dhabi,” according to an official announcement.

The new vaccine plant in KIZAD will become operational this year and over its phased development will have a production capacity of 200 million doses per annum across three filling lines and five automated packaging lines. The JV is already producing Hayat-Vax with its partner, Julphar in the UAE with an initial capacity of 2 million doses per month.

2,289 new Covid-19 cases

The ministry also announced that it conducted 223,799 additional Covid-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.

‏In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment.

‏As part of its intensified testing campaign, the ministry announced 2,289 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 459,360.

‏According to the ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care. ‏It also announced six deaths due to Covid-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,492.

‏The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished Covid-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.

‏MoHAP also noted that an additional 2,422 individuals had fully recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 443,153.

Slip dip in Covid cases in India

Meanwhile, India recorded 56,211 new cases of coronavirus, a slight dip from the country’s record-breaking tallies over the last three days, data from the health ministry showed on Tuesday.

The country’s tally dipped below the 60,000 mark after three days, a Reuters tally showed, with its richest state, Maharashtra, accounting for more than 31,000 of the 56,211 cases reported in the last 24 hours.

“Deaths in the last 24 hours stood at 271, and 162,114 have died so far in the pandemic,” the health ministry said.
