Shaista Lodhi recently sat across host Hafiz Ahmed, discussing Shoaib Malik and Sana Javed’s wedding news that absolutely shattered the internet. The television personality expressed her thoughts candidly about the matter which spread like wildfire, which eventually led to the audience picking sides and mostly targeting the newlyweds with a barrage of negative comments.
Conversing in Urdu, Shaista asked, “Two adults liking and choosing each other to spend the rest of their lives together – there’s nothing wrong with that, is there?” She added, “People have a lot of time on social media, way too much,” whilst talking about the judgment the duo faced.
Shaista went on to share, “Both of them (Shoaib and Sana) are my very dear friends. Whether or not I guessed, these are individual choices. Oftentimes, to save ourselves from a lot, we do not express things as they are happening in our lives.” The star frustratedly added, “Social media is truly a waste of time.” Reiterating her infuriation, Shaista said, “People have a lot of free time. They judge people however they want.”
Furthermore, Shaista doubled down on the fact that “one cannot write everything happening in their lives.” She stated, “It’s not necessary that if you’ve experienced something unpleasant, you share it. Why is that necessary?” Her frustration evidently mounting, Shaista asked, “Who allows you to judge anyone, who they’re meeting?”
She went on to share, “My work is to be on television, perform there – judge me based on that. What’s happening in my personal life, who I am or am not with, what I think about anyone else – why should I share this? And those two aren’t children. If two people are happy together, what’s wrong with that? Why are people upset?”
Angrily shedding light upon how “people always want something” to discuss, the star asked audiences to reflect on “what it is that they want.” She made her anger known by saying, “They share disgusting thumbnails to make their videos go viral. They don’t think about the fact that Sana has a sister, brother, she has others in her family. Even those who were in her and Shoaib’s life before this, those people have their own dignity and respect.”
Capping off her thoughts, Shaista said, “I started crying when I was reading the comments. How can people drag families through the mud like this? People commenting should think about whether or not they would tolerate it if their families were spoken about in the same way. I don’t know why we can’t see people happy and have to dig through their skeletons.”
