Pakistan team’s bowling all-rounder Nida Dar thinks that by streaming women’s cricket live, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) can progress the game in the country.

In a presser at National Stadium Karachi, Dar shared her views on how to put women’s cricket in the mainstream. She gave an example of Women Big Bash League (WBBL) which streamed live on television and it gave immense confidence to the players.

“Everyone saw me playing at the BBL because the matches were streamed live. See, such things help players gain confidence. It feels different when people are watching you live, it encourages you to do more,” she said.

“The PCB is investing a lot in women’s cricket. If you ask me about the National Triangular T20 Women’s Cricket Championship so it would have more importance if streamed live but I think things are gradually getting pace. I would also say that people should come here and support us as their support is important for us,” Dar added.

Talking about her WBBL experience, Dar feels like she had played very fast cricket. She said that the status of WBBL is too high that it can’t be compared with the game here in Pakistan.

“To be honest, WBBL is too competitive. I enjoyed my time there and learned a lot while playing among some top players,” she said.

Dar also stressed the need to have a Pakistan Super League (PSL) for women as well so that the cricketers here get an opportunity for showing their talent. “There should be a separate league for Pakistani women cricketers. In fact, foreign players told me that they want to come and play in Pakistan. My teammate in BBL Shabnam Ismail from South Africa showed immense interest to visit Pakistan,” she added.

Dar acknowledged the fact that she is out-of-form but still being in the team is not due to playing just BBL. “I know I am not in-form but this doesn’t mean that I am in the team just because I have played WBBL. As I mentioned, WBBL gave me immense exposure but my last two year’s performance in domestic cricket justifies my selection in the national team. I am trying to get my form back and I hope things would get better for me with hard work,” she said.
