The Traffic and Security Patrols Department in Al Ain, in collaboration with the Special Patrols Department at Abu Dhabi Police, undertook a joint enforcement initiative throughout January 2025 to address the issue of misuse of vehicles by generating excessive noise. This initiative resulted in the impoundment of 106 vehicles involved in such activities.
Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Bloushi, Director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Department, expressed concern over the problematic behaviours exhibited by certain vehicle drivers, particularly the young people.
These behaviours, as highlighted by Al Bloushi, encompass noise, disturbance, and reckless driving, particularly in residential areas and neighbourhoods.
He also noted that excessive vehicle noise has the potential to disrupt public tranquility, leading to feelings of panic, tension, and nervousness among road users and residents in the vicinity of noisy vehicles, particularly among children, patients, and the elderly.
It was emphasised that the Abu Dhabi Police are unequivocal in their stance against drivers who deliberately generate noise from their vehicles and make alterations to the engine or chassis without the requisite authorisation from the licensing authority.
The legal repercussions for such actions are severe, as outlined in Article (20) of the Traffic Law, which stipulates a fine of Dhs2,000 with imposition of 12 traffic points for the offence of operating a vehicle that emits noise.
Additionally, Article (73) of the Traffic Law addresses the infringement of altering the engine or chassis of a vehicle without the necessary licence, a violation that results in a fine of Dhs1,000 and with 12 traffic points, along with the impounding the vehicle for 30 days.
These penalties are in accordance with the provisions of Law No. (5) of 2020 on vehicle impoundments in Abu Dhabi, which outlaws the modification of a vehicle’s engine or chassis without the necessary licence. Dhs10,000 is the financial value required to release the vehicle.
The vehicle will remain impounded until this sum is paid, and the maximum duration of impoundment is three months. In the event of non-payment, the vehicle will be sold at a public auction.
