76th Independence Celebration Weightlifting Cup 2023

Lahore, August 12, 2023 – The much-awaited 76th Independence Celebration Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Cup is set to take place on Sunday, August 13, at the historic Old Campus Punjab University Weightlifting Club in Rawaz Garden Chaubarji, Lahore. The event is poised to be a showcase of strength and determination, marking the nation’s 76th year of independence.

The prestigious event will kick off with an inauguration ceremony presided over by the esteemed President of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, Hafiz Imran Butt. The event’s organizing committee boasts a roster of distinguished individuals, including Miss Nuzahat Jabeen (Secretary, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation), Irfan Butt, Sheikh Mohammad Anwar, and Amjad Amin Butt (Vice President, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation). The committee also includes Abdul Sattar Rahi (Treasurer, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation), Javed Asghar (General Secretary, Punjab Weightlifting Association), Abdul Khaliq, Islam Natak, Kashif Barkat, Qaiser Iftikhar (former international weightlifter), and others.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

2:00 PM: Pre-competition meeting
3:00 PM: Commencement of the weightlifting competition

Aqeel Javed Butt has been appointed as the Organizing Secretary, while Amjad Amin Butt, the Vice President of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, will serve as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee.

The competition will feature a contingent of talented women weightlifters, each vying for victory and national recognition. Among the notable participants are Amna Babar, Shahzadee Nazar, Shamaila Butt, Heera Niaz, Naila Butt, Fatima Sharif, Zaira Mehmood, Iman, Zamal Nawaz, Ayat Nawaz, Fiza, Mukadis Sarwar, Larib Kamal, Airaf Fatima, Noor Tahir, Anam Iqbal, and Kiran Iqbal.

The male division of the competition promises to be equally exciting, with contenders including Abdullah Sohail Butt, Waseem Akram, Shaheer Butt, Ahmed Butt, Adil Butt, Sufyan Ahmed, Saad Iqbal, Areeb Ahmed, Abdul Hadi, Wasif Fida, Lal Ali, Hasnain, Muhammad Ali, Ali Sohail Khan, Danish Butt, Aamir Ali, Mohammad Ali Akbar, Abdullah Azim, Abdullah Naveed, and several other remarkable athletes.
