Cunningham’s Career Night Fuels Pistons’ 7th Straight Win in Night of NBA Buzzer-Beaters

Detroit’s dramatic overtime victory against Washington headlines a thrilling slate of games featuring last-second heroics from Miami and Orlando, and a dominant display from San Antonio’s Wembanyama.

In a night of heart-stopping finishes across the NBA, the Detroit Pistons extended their winning streak to seven games with a dramatic 137-135 overtime victory over the Washington Wizards on Monday, fueled by a historic triple-double from Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons’ win was the centerpiece of an evening that saw multiple games decided in the final seconds, including two buzzer-beaters and another going to overtime.

Pistons Prevail in Thriller

Cunningham was spectacular, scoring a career-high 46 points on 14-of-45 shooting while adding 12 rebounds, 11 assists, five steals, and two blocks. His leadership propelled Detroit to a 9-2 record, but it was reserve guard Daniss Jenkins who delivered the crucial shots in regulation.

With the Pistons down 126-121 and seconds left, Jenkins, who hadn’t played in the previous three games, sank a three-pointer with three seconds remaining. After a Washington free throw, he caught the inbounds pass and hit another three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, finishing with a career-high 24 points.

“I told myself if I got that ball I was going to shoot it,” Jenkins said. “He trusted me and passed it to me and it went in.”

In the extra period, Javonte Green’s dunk with 25 seconds left proved to be the winning basket, sealing the win after Washington’s C.J. McCollum, who led all scorers with 42 points, missed two final three-point attempts.

Overtime Drama and Buzzer-Beaters

The night’s drama extended to Miami, where Andrew Wiggins slammed home an alley-oop dunk as time expired in overtime to lift the Heat to a 140-138 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The game, which featured a tying jumper from Miami’s Jaime Jaquez with 7.1 seconds left in regulation, saw Norman Powell lead the Heat with 33 points. Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell had forced a second overtime with a clutch three-pointer with 0.4 seconds left, only for Wiggins to win it at the buzzer.

In Orlando, Desmond Bane broke a 112-112 tie with a three-pointer as the clock hit zero, giving the Magic a 115-112 home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Bane’s game-winner came after he had missed his first five attempts from beyond the arc.

Wembanyama’s Dominant Display

Beyond the last-second heroics, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama put on a show in Chicago. The French phenom delivered a complete stat line of 38 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 5 assists, leading the Spurs to a 121-117 win. Wembanyama was exceptionally efficient, shooting 6-of-9 from three-point range and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line.

In other action, Luka Doncic’s 38 points guided the Los Angeles Lakers past the Charlotte Hornets 121-111, while Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 30 points powered the Milwaukee Bucks to a 116-114 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
