Emirates airline to restart select flights from DXB following security incident; authorities confirm fire was contained and advise passengers to check flight status.
Dubai, UAE – Dubai International Airport (DXB) has begun the gradual resumption of flight operations following a temporary suspension early Monday morning due to a drone attack.
The Dubai Media Office confirmed that while some flights were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) as a precaution, authorities successfully brought a fire under control near the airport premises. The incident prompted an immediate halt to traffic at one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
In an official statement, Emirates airline announced that it expects to operate a limited flight schedule from DXB after 10:00 am local time. The carrier has begun notifying passengers affected by the morning’s cancellations, providing guidance on rebooking and accommodation options.
“Affected passengers will receive a cancellation notice along with guidance on accommodation options for the flights that got affected today,” an Emirates spokesperson confirmed. Earlier in the day, the airline had urgently advised travellers to avoid heading to the airport, stressing that “the safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority and will not be compromised.”
The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) confirmed the phased resumption of select flights, urging all passengers to liaise directly with their airlines for the most current information regarding their travel itineraries.
Road Closures and Traffic Diversions
The security incident also led to significant disruptions across major road networks leading to the airport. Dubai Police confirmed the temporary closure of key arteries, including:
- Airport Street and the Airport Tunnel
- Al Garhoud Bridge leading to Casablanca Street
- Intersections at Cargo Village and Marrakech Street toward the airport
Authorities moved quickly to alert residents ahead of the Monday morning rush hour, advising motorists to utilize alternative routes to ensure public safety and mitigate congestion.
