Ukrainian officials report damage to transport and energy networks after overnight drone and missile strikes, disrupting travel and essential services.
Ukrainian authorities reported significant damage to infrastructure following a major Russian drone and missile offensive overnight, which struck a railway junction near the capital and energy sites across the country.
The state rail company, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced that the depot and multiple railcars were hit in the town of Fastiv, southwest of Kyiv. While no casualties were immediately reported, the attack forced the cancellation of several commuter train routes serving the capital and the northeastern Chernihiv region.
The assault extended far beyond the railways. According to Ukraine’s Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories, power and heat generation facilities in the Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions were also targeted.
The southern port region of Odesa faced severe disruptions, with thousands of residents left without heat or running water. Port infrastructure was partially de-energized, forcing operators to rely on backup generators.
This series of strikes aligns with a recent Russian strategy of intensifying attacks on Ukraine’s energy and logistical networks, aiming to disrupt military supply lines and impact civilian life during the winter months.
