Nine victims are believed to have life-threatening injuries after a violent attack aboard a crowded London-bound train, prompting a massive emergency response.
HUNTINGDON, UK – British police have arrested two suspects following a mass stabbing on a busy intercity train Saturday evening that left ten people hospitalized, nine of them with potentially life-threatening wounds.
The attack occurred aboard a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. The train was urgently halted at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire, where it was met by a large contingent of armed officers, ambulances, and air ambulance support.
Chaos and Bloodshed on a Crowded Commuter Train
Witnesses described scenes of panic and violence as the attack unfolded. One passenger told The Times of seeing a man with a large knife and “blood everywhere,” with terrified passengers hiding in train washrooms or being trampled as they tried to flee.
“The alarm was raised around 7:40 pm, and the train was brought to a stop at Huntingdon,” a police spokesperson said. After the train halted, witnesses reported seeing a man with a knife on the platform who was then tasered and restrained by police.
Major Investigation Underway as Nation Reacts
The British Transport Police, supported by counter-terrorism units, have launched a full investigation. The train remains a sealed crime scene as forensic experts work to piece together the events.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling” and “deeply concerning,” thanking emergency services for their rapid response. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood confirmed the two arrests.
The attack has reignited national concerns about knife crime in England and Wales, which the Labour government has branded a “national crisis.” The incident follows other recent high-profile stabbings, including a deadly attack at a Manchester synagogue in October.
