Ras Al Khaimah has lost Thani Mohammed Thani Al Mansouri, the emirate’s oldest Emirati nurse and one of the first nurses in the country.
He began his nursing career in 1975 at the then Nakheel Hospital (now Obaidullah Hospital). Born in 1958, Thani Mohammed Thani spent 40 years in the nursing profession, excelling in suturing surgeries and applying plaster casts for fractures.
Over the past four decades, he has worked in most of the emirate’s hospitals and health centres. He started working at the age of 17 and retired as he approached his sixtieth birthday.
He was infected during the COVID-19 crisis five years ago and died in an Abu Dhabi hospital the day before yesterday.
Thani was a firm believer that the nurse’s role and support to the doctors was to alleviate the patient’s suffering and keep them happy and optimistic by raising their morale. He emphasised the importance of greeting patients with a smile, regardless of the difficulties and challenges they faced.
