Representation of BIPS in 7th Annual Health Sciences Students Research Conference 2018

Since the establishment of Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in 1996, it had remain as one of the prominent institute of pharmacy education in Baqai Medical University, recognized by the Pakistan Pharmacy Council and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Moving back to the history the students studying in this institute, through hard work and their devotion, had played in an important role in various domains and their continuous achievements lead to the persistence of the institute as the premier center for education as well as research.

One such remarkable achievement for this month was the representation of Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical sciences in 7th Annual Health Sciences Students Research Conference on 8th December’ 2018 conducted by The Agha Khan University, where an undergraduate student, Maryam Inayat, presented the institute, currently enrolled in the 4th semester (Second Professional Year of Pharmacy) where her research was appreciated with extraordinary remarks by the SRF judges.

For the 7th Annual Health Sciences Students Research Conference, there were 300+ submissions received for the researches abstract from universities all around Pakistan, and 120 abstracts were shortlisted to be presented by more than 12 medical and health sciences institutes. The researches were presented through 2 methods, i.e. through Oral presentation or either by the Poster presentation divided into 4 categories, i.e. A, B, C and D respectively according to the method of presentation and the titles of the research. Since words are more authorative in permeating the influence, Maryam opted for oral presentation representing her Abstract titled as Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity Status in a Private Medical University and Research Facilities in Karachi, Pakistan. Her supervisor for this research was Dr. Zuneera Akram, who herself is a quite inspiring and one of the energized pharmacist currently enrolled in PhD. in the same institute.

As soon as the research study was selected for the conference, Maryam Inayat along with her Batch coordinator Ms Aisha Noreen and the supervisor Dr. Zuneera Akram had been working hard in order to present her institute the best way she could and her devotion as well as constancy bought an accomplishment for the institute.

This year’s participants were judged by an esteemed panel of judges including: Dr Ali Sarwar Zuberi, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine; Dr. Masood Kadir, Associate Professor, Department of Community Health Sciences; Dr. Najia Ghanchi, Department of Pathology and Microbiology for oral presentations. Dr. Asad Ali, Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, Dr Babar Hasan, Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health; and Dr. Ambreen Sonawalla, AKU Class of 2015, made up the panel for poster presentations.

The SRF judges appreciated the efforts of such a young emerging researcher, and also invited to collaborate for biosafety and biosecurity trainings with Agha Khan University and recognized such a perceivable research study.

We would like to congratulate the Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences for such a big achievement before the end of another successful year and acknowledge all of the struggles as well as the endeavors of every single person who is proudly claiming oneself as a BIPSian with the dedication.
