The UAE Central Bank has issued commemorative gold and silver coins to mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi Library, which was the first library in the Emirate of Sharjah.
This initiative constitutes a component of Sharjah Islamic Bank’s overarching strategy to provide support for cultural initiatives that embody the national identity and serve to enhance Sharjah’s status as a capital of culture and knowledge.
The issuance of these commemorative coins marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first library in the Emirate of Sharjah in 1925.
This library has become a scientific and cultural monument due to its unique collection of rare manuscripts, Arabic and international books that reflect the progress of cultural and human thought.
Furthermore, the library’s historical maps, spanning various eras, serve as a valuable resource for researchers and readers, offering a rich source of knowledge on the region’s history.
The obverse of the coin displays the Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Library building, accompanied by the years 1925-2025, the nominal value, the inscription ‘Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi Library Centenary’, and the words ‘UAE Central Bank’ in both Arabic and English.
The reverse of the coin displays the name of the library, ‘Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi’. Each gold coin has a mass of 40 grams and the nominal value is Dhs1000, with a total of 125 pieces to be issued.
Conversely, the silver coins have a mass of 60 grams each and a nominal value of Dhs100. A total of 1,250 pieces of this denomination are to be issued.
All coins will be delivered to the Sharjah Islamic Bank and will be available for purchase at its head office only.Mohammed Abdullah, the CEO of Sharjah Islamic Bank, stated that the issuance of these commemorative coins is in alignment with the bank’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that embody the national identity and enhance the status of the Emirate of Sharjah as the capital of culture and knowledge.
This initiative aligns with the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to leverage science and arts for the advancement of the people, their service, and the evolution of society and its institutions.
