DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates announced the temporary and full closure of its airspace in the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, citing rapidly evolving regional security developments.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed the decision, describing it as an “exceptional precautionary measure” aimed at ensuring the safety of flights and air crews, as well as safeguarding the UAE’s territory.
In an official statement, the authority said the move followed a comprehensive assessment of security and operational risks, conducted in full coordination with relevant national and international authorities. The GCAA emphasized that airspace safety and the protection of national sovereignty remain absolute priorities.
Passengers Advised to Contact Airlines
The GCAA urged passengers to contact their respective airlines directly for the latest updates regarding flight schedules. It confirmed that accommodation and necessary assistance will be provided to affected passengers by the airlines, in coordination with local authorities.
