Ministry studying new proposals to ease traffic congestion between Dubai and Northern Emirates

Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei, on Wednesday, revealed that the ministry is studying proposals to implementing projects to solve the problem of traffic congestion on federal roads between Dubai and the Northern Emirates, during the second half of 2024.
This came during the third session of the Federal National Council (FNC) held under the chairmanship of Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Council, in Zayed Hall at the Council’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, in response to a question directed by Dr Adnan Al Hammadi, a member of the FNC, who said that the new road will reduce traffic, especially at peak hours.
Dr Al Hamadi noted that more than 850,000 vehicles use the main federal roads: Emirates Road, Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, and Al Ittihad Street, going back and forth between Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and the congestion costs the UAE more than Dhs12 billion, besides several other problems.
In response to the proposal, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei said that it will be studied and the ministry will coordinate with the concerned authorities to decide whether there is an actual need to construct the road, increase lanes, or direct vehicles during peak hours to secondary roads.
The Minister explained that the country is witnessing continuous development in road networks and that the Ministry is coordinating with local municipalities to enhance the main federal roads linking the emirates of the country and between Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
He added that it was agreed to implement some of these projects in the second half of 2024 to ease traffic and reduce congestion.
He pointed out that there is an integrated centre to monitor traffic throughout 24 hours to find out the reason for congestion.
“The ministry is working hard to determine the ways to ease these congestions. In the second half of 2024, some projects in this regard will be implemented,” he added.
