Stockholm, June 8, 2024 – Pakistan and Sweden continue to bolster their excellent trade relations and collaborative efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change. This was underscored by Mr. Sikandar Ashfaq Zaidi, President of the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while addressing a distinguished gathering of the Pakistani community and Swedish traders and businessmen in Stockholm.

During his address, Mr. Sikandar Ashfaq Zaidi emphasized the thriving economic and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Sweden. He was accompanied by PML-N Sweden President Saeed Shaikh, acclaimed businessman Irfan Niaz Chaudhry, renowned journalist Kashif Aziz Bhutta, and Masoom Qamar. The delegation also met with Pakistan’s Deputy Head of Mission in Stockholm, Syeda Warda Bibi, at the Pakistan’s Embassy in Sweden.

Syeda Warda Bibi highlighted the robust and growing relationship between the two nations. “Pakistan enjoys warm diplomatic, trade, and economic relations with Sweden, which are strengthening with each passing day,” she noted. She praised the efforts of both countries in fostering a strong, mutually beneficial partnership.

Trade Counselor Ahsan Riaz Chaudhry elaborated on the collaborative ventures between Pakistan and Sweden, particularly in addressing climate change. “Pakistan and Sweden have jointly launched efforts to mitigate climate change effects, while also exploring avenues for lasting cooperation in renewable energy, sustainable technology, waste management, information technology, and research and development,” he stated. He also mentioned that approximately 30 Swedish companies are currently operating in various sectors in Pakistan, contributing to the economic ties between the two countries.

Mr. Sikandar Ashfaq Zaidi called for increased exchange visits of trade delegations to explore further cooperation in diverse fields such as pharmaceuticals, construction, textiles, steel, sports, chemicals, defense, organic chemicals, garments, footwear, and ceramics. He highlighted the importance of arranging business opportunity conferences, like the one recently held in Istanbul, which was attended by trade delegates from both nations. Mr. Zaidi also shared insights from his visits to Spain, Norway, Belgium, and France, where he held fruitful discussions with traders and their trade bodies, furthering the cause of international trade.

He stressed the urgency of expanding trade cooperation between Pakistan and Sweden, especially in the renewable energy sector. “More strenuous efforts are needed to expand cooperation in a host of fields, particularly renewable energy, which is crucial for our future,” Mr. Zaidi said.

The visit and discussions mark a significant step towards enhancing the trade and economic relationship between Pakistan and Sweden. Both countries are committed to continuing their collaboration on climate change mitigation and exploring new avenues for economic cooperation. The efforts of leaders and trade bodies from both sides are paving the way for a stronger, more sustainable partnership.

The Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a leading organization in Pakistan that represents the business community in the Gujrat region. It aims to promote trade and economic development through advocacy, networking, and fostering international partnerships.
