In a collaborative effort to combat the growing menace of smog, the Rural Community Development Society (RCDS) in partnership with WeltHunger Hilfe organized an awareness walk, aimed at educating the public on the adverse effects of smog and promoting safety measures to minimize its impact.
During the event, informational materials, including pamphlets detailing precautionary steps, were distributed among participants and the general public. The participants carried placards and banners with messages emphasizing the importance of preventive measures against smog.
Muhammad Murtaza Khokhar, Founder and Director of RCDS, highlighted the urgency of addressing the issue. “Smog is taking a heavy toll on our health and environment. It is high time we raised awareness about mitigation strategies and how common people can adapt to minimize its effects,” he stated. He emphasized the various factors contributing to smog in Punjab, particularly in Lahore, such as industrial emissions, vehicle exhaust, crop burning, and construction dust.
Khokhar pointed out that combating smog requires a multi-faceted approach, including curtailing vehicle and industrial emissions, avoiding stubble burning, and increasing tree plantation. “We must see this as a collective issue that necessitates a shared vision and responsibility. Everyone must play their part by planting more trees to sustain and protect our environment,” he added.
The walk witnessed remarkable participation from various sectors, including media personnel, civil society organizations, students, academia, law enforcement agencies, advocates, and the general public from all walks of life. The event underscored the need for a unified effort to address the smog crisis and foster a healthier environment.
The collaboration between RCDS and WeltHunger Hilfe reflects a strong commitment to environmental conservation and public health. Both organizations aim to continue their efforts in raising awareness and implementing practical solutions to combat smog, ensuring a cleaner and healthier future for the people of Punjab.
